What is grass seeding?
Seeding is when rye seed is spread into areas where grass is dieing or is brown in color due to lack of water or sunlight. It is a temporary grass that is planted, watered and nurtured. It eventually dies off when the old grass starts growing once again.
During the winter months in order for golf courses or homes to have a green lawn the only option was seeding. Now the preferred method is grass coloring. look around you to see all the places that used to seed now they are switching to the more popular method of grass painting.
There is many reasons people are switching from seeding to coloring: The main issues are:
Planting the seeds: Seed grass is very labor intensive and expensive to do it right. The seeds must be planted and must be covered by the soil at the correct depth to obtain good germination.
Watering: the soil needs to have the correct moisture for the seeds to germinate, during water restrictions it is against the law to water your lawn. For the seeds to germinate and maintain its green look the new lawn needs to be continually watered.
Heat: in the southern climates if it is too hot the rye grass will die and turn brown what a waste his will be. If it was colored the grass will stay green 3-4 months
With all this hard work and countless hours of maintenance there is still no guarantee that the rye grass will survive. |
